Of Mice & Men

I approached this design as a creating a modern book cover for the classic novel Of Mice & Men as opposed to creating a vintage aesthetic that fit the book’s setting of depression era California.

The illustration was inspired by the work of Liam Ashurst who is known for his woodcut style illustrations which show objects outlining settings . I wanted to mimic the dark tone and farmland setting within the novel so I chose to use a rustic color palette against a deep gray background. I expanded on the rustic aesthetic by adding texture to the illustrations and by using a textured typeface for the title.
